De Lier, drilling for geothermal energy update

August 2014, De Lier, The Netherlands

Well Engineering Partners (WEP) has successfully completed the well construction of two wells for the geothermal doublet for GDL (V.O.F. Geothermie De Lier) in De Lier, The Netherlands. The wells have been tested and will soon be ready for production.

The wells were drilled in the Delft Sandstone to a total depth of approximately 2500m TVD (total drilled length is approximately 2900m) and produce water of 85° C. WEP has provided drilling management to the project in all phases: well design and engineering, project management and supervision during execution. The wells were drilled with the T-49 drilling rig of KCA Deutag.

The project has been a cooperation of Harting Holland and A. de Bruijn en Zn. The two companies have a combined total greenhouse area of 47 hectare dedicated to the production of tomatoes and aim to reduce the consumption of natural gas by 10-12 million m3 per year.
